The group therapy process is an effective and evidence based approach offering the development of a culture of recovery. Within this important culture the individual grows a sense of belonging, connection and fellowship. Groups offer the opportunity to self-express in a safe climate that provides positive peer reinforcement, social and life skills. It has been researched and proven that the group process has a significant impact on the success of the recovering addict. In a substance abuse group each individual brings his or her unique and yet common experience to provide connection and hope to their peers. The group dynamic brings perspective to the core issues that underlie addiction and assists with better understanding and combating manageability to move into stability learning tools to manage triggers to use, regulate emotions and prevent relapse.
